David Wong Cover Tune Workshop 2017


This unique program, open to all ages and levels, includes large ensemble jam sessions, musicianship skills class & combo sessions with opportunities to learn how to “chop” and “loop”. Participants will play and create cover tunes (pop, rock, and/or R&B) with David Wong each Thursday night.

This program is mainly taught by acoustic/electric violinist David Wong, but will also feature guest artist educators including violist Stephanie Price-Wong.

David Wong has been called a “Rock Star” in the violin world. Using both electric and acoustic violins, and sometimes his voice, he arranges rock, pop, and other top 40 hits into improvisation filled orchestrations.

With over 4,700 Facebook fans, 20,000 Twitter followers, and 31,000 YouTube subscribers, David has attracted the attention of people around the world. He’s been discussed in Time Magazine, Huffington Post, MSN, Good Morning America and even had his videos featured on the YouTube Home Page. He currently has over 4.9 million YouTube views and you can find many of his recordings for purchase on iTunes.

David has performed in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to Hotel Café, and collaborated with artists such as indie rock band Air Traffic Controller and throwback cover song group, Scott Bradlee and Postmodern Jukebox.

David began playing violin at age 4 and still loves his Bach and Brahms as much as his Katy Perry and Bruno Mars. He graduated from Amherst College in 2008 with a double major in Music and Asian Studies.

Stephanie Price-Wong, viola

Stephanie Price-Wong has been surrounded by music her entire life. Growing up in a musical and an arts administrative family, she is currently the Assistant Artistic Director and Fellowship Program Director of the Chamber Music Connection based in Worthington, Ohio. Last year, Stephanie was a Visiting Artist at Ohio University teaching viola and chamber music. Starting this fall, she is now the Adjunct Viola Professor.

Her diverse performing styles have resulted in collaborations with world-renowned artists including the Cavani Quartet, Jeffrey Irvine, Peter Salaff, Michael Tree, Mikhail Kopelman, percussionist Jamey Haddad, and Postmodern Jukebox.

Stephanie is the founding violist of the KASA Quartet and David Wong Trio. She has also performed in orchestras for Andrea Bocelli, Arnie Roth, Distant Worlds: Final Fantasy, Cleveland Pops, Firelands Symphony Orchestra, Central Ohio Symphony, Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra, New Albany Symphony Orchestra, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra (violin and viola) and as Assistant Principal Viola with Opera Project Columbus lead by music director and internationally acclaimed conductor, Maestro Alessandro Siciliani.

Stephanie received a Master of Music in Viola Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music with a certificate in Arts Leadership from the Catherine Filene Shouse Arts Leadership Program. In 2012, Stephanie graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she was the recipient of the Alumni Jim Hall Graduate Studies Scholarship.

Enrollment & Tuition: Student Tuition for the “David Wong Cover Tune Workshop” is $195.00. Due to space restrictions, enrollment is limited. To participate, registration should be received by January 20, 2017. The Artistic Director will consider students for acceptance into the program in the order their completed registrations are received. Registrations post-marked after deadline dates will include a $30 late fee. Your registration is incomplete unless accompanied by tuition. A refund, minus a processing fee of $50, will be made with notice of cancellation by January 20, 2017. No refunds will be given for cancellations after this deadline. CMC, Inc. reserves the right to cancel this program/workshop and return all fees in the event of insufficient registration. If the program is canceled, CMC, Inc. will not be responsible for any losses incurred by registrants.
