Competitions
CMC’s participants are consistently top prize winners at the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the United States. CMC provides educational and financial support to student ensembles entering competitions at the local/state and national levels.
The process of competing helps students build:
- Confidence and discipline
- Friendships (within their ensemble, CMC, and the broader music community across the country, with peers as well as with potential mentors)
- Knowledge of music
- A resume for college applications

CMC Chamber Music Invitational
When: Saturday, January 11, 2025, 1:00 – 6:00 pm
Where: Sanborn Hall, Elizabeth St and Gray Chapel, 61 S Sandusky St, Delaware, OH
Who: Up to sixteen chamber ensembles of 3 to 6 members, and individual players will participate. Open to ensembles and individual players including strings, winds, and/or piano.
Awards: Each ensemble will receive comments, certificates, and participate in a reading session with distinguished professional chamber musicians and educators.
Repertoire: *Up to two contrasting movements, around 10 minutes of total repertoire.
*Groups who only have one movement prepared may also participate. Individual players without a chamber group will be placed together with other individual players to participate in reading session(s) with a mentor.

Applications Due: Register by 11:55PM on Monday, December 16, 2024.
Participation Fee: A non-refundable registration fee of $40.00 per member of ensemble is due online by December 21, 2024. Needs-based scholarship is available.
Event Description:
Up to sixteen chamber ensembles and individual players may participate in this biennial Chamber Music Invitational event to be held on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University. Open to instrumental ensembles made up of strings, strings with winds, strings with piano, mix of strings with winds and piano.
- Each ensemble will have the opportunity to perform up to two contrasting movements of chamber works for a select panel of chamber artists.
- Individual players will be placed into a group and paired with a Chamber Music Mentor to help guide them through a reading of a chamber work to be determined by instrumentation and experience.
- The performances are free and open to the public.
- Written comments from a panel of experts will be provided to each participating ensemble after the invitational is complete.
- For the grand finale of the invitational everyone will join together on the stage of Gray Chapel along with the panel members for a reading of the finale movement of Beethoven String Quartet Op. 59, No. 3 and Catherine McMichael’s Goldfinch Rag.
